REVIEW

  1. Three stages of sonship
    1. Infancy (teknion) – symbolized by Jesus’ manger birth; and circumcision on the 8th day.
      1. Salvation is the infancy stage for the believer.
      2. Indicators of the infancy stage:
        1. Inconsistency (for example, Abram was God’s chosen man yet he was inconsistent)
        2. Absenteeism is a sign of inconsistency (Hebrews 10:25)
        3. Unaccountability
        4. Wranglings, disputations, controversy, and arguments with the Father’s views and assignments
        5. Milk teachings (basic, elementary teachings) are necessary instead of meat teachings
        6. Constant quest for self comfort
        7. An unwillingness to be corrected
        8. Hostilities (fierce, vicious, untamed)
        9. Scoffing questions (Galatians 6:9)
        10. Non-compliance (not discerned the difference between God’s house and our; God’s money and our money)
    2. Puberty (teknon) – symbolized by Jesus appearing in the temple at age
    3. Maturity (huios) meaning son placement
  2. Hebrews 12:1-9
    1. God assigns a spiritual Father for our life.  We do not shop for a spiritual Father.
    2. There will be seasons of corrections in the believer’s life.
    3. The ways of God must be learned because His ways are not the ways of the world.  (Scriptural reference – St. Matthew 11:28-29).
    4. God has a system that must be learned (Scriptural reference – Isaiah 55:8-9)
    5. Bastards are the opposite of true sons.

  1.          I.            Operating under an open heaven
    1. The heavens are opened to God’s mature sons only.
      1. St. Matthew 3:16-17
        1. Jesus has the opportunity to operate under an opened heaven just like God.
      2. Exodus 4:21-23
        1. God performed the all the miracles to deliver Israel from Egypt because Israel represented His son.
      3. Hosea 11:1
      4. Psalm 2:7
        1. A man’s words should have impact on earth.
    2. God passes on the best of what He has through sonship.  Satan also passes on his best through sonship.
      1. St. John 8:44

  1.         II.            True tests of sonship
    1. St. Luke 15:11-32
      1. Verse 13 – an immature son will waste his inheritance
      2. Verse 15 – The country would assign us to a task we will eventually hate; and thereby we would leave their society.
      3. Verse 16 – eating husks (carobpods) was a sign of repentance and does not yield any nourishment
      4. Verse 17 – introspection or coming to ourselves, reveals maturity
      5. Verse 20 –The father will cover the son
      6. Verse 23 – God has a fatted calf for the mature son (remove all the impurities in your life)
      7. Verse 24 – The prodigal’s return to the father’s way of doing things should be understood over and against a Jewish ceremony – the Qesesah.  This was a ceremony that tied the community in with the family to a rebellious son (Deuteronomy 21:15-21).  Qesesah in the Hebrew means cutting off.   This ceremony was used anytime a son married out of his ethnicity, or married an unworthy woman, or for selling property to the Gentiles. He could be killed on site if the villagers saw him before the father saw him.
      8. Verse 28 – A good son does not inconvenience his father; a good son will never refuse the father’s request and keeps his position by the father
      9. Verse 29 – A good son serves without being seen
    2. True son’s responses
      1. Take his position inside the room at the door beside his Father.  In other words, mature sons restore; immature sons talk about it
      2. How much land (the mind) one allows the father to conquer
      3. Begins with a revelation
      4. Joined to a church (a knitting in the spirit)
      5. Do not inconvenience the father
      6. Do not refuse the father’s request
      7. Do not call attention to their service
      8. Do not disregard the father’s attention
      9. Do not impose their own standard over the father’s
      10. Allow themselves to be silent during correction (not defensive)
      11. Bring others into the father’s house
      12. Patiently wait for their time of promotion which is decided by the father
      13. Will not blame the father for the promotion of others, or the preferential treatment of others, or not being recognized when they think they should be promoted
