Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives II

(Conditions for Being Used by God)

 

“You are just one Word from God away from having an extraordinary life”.

“The path of an extraordinary life is marked by extraordinary challenges”.

 

DEFINITIONS

A.      Assignment defined…

1.      A duty one has been appointed to perform.

2.      The act of putting a person into a non-elective position.

3.      A position of responsibility.

4.      A delegation, a mission, a duty, a job, a position, a post.

 

FOUNDATIONAL TEXTS

A.      Jeremiah 1:5-10

1.       God has an assignment for every person’s life.

2.       Until you begin confessing the right words (the word of God) pertaining to your assignment, God is unable to bring your assignment to fruition.

B.      St. Mark 11:12-14, 20-23

1.      Your life is supposed to function according to purpose.

2.      You should be speaking to the purpose of your life on a daily basis.

3.      Malfunctioning conditions in your life will not self correct; change comes when you speak the right words (the word of God).

REVIEW

A.       Hebrews 11:1-3 (KJV & The Amplified Bible)

1.      Hope, which is the object of your focus, is the goal setter for faith.

2.      As believers, we continue to say what the Word says about our goals until manifestation.

B.      Hebrews 11:32

1.      The Apostle Paul chronicles an extensive list of men and women in Hebrews 11 whose ordinary lives were transformed by faith.

2.      Gideon is one such man of faith whose ordinary life was transformed by faith.

C.      A closer look at the ordinary life of Gideon:

1.      Judges 6:11-16

a.      Theophany – an Old Testament manifestation or appearance of Jesus Christ.  (verse 11)

1.      Other examples of theophany in the bible:

2.      Hagar in Genesis 16

3.      Moses at the burning bush in Exodus 3 

4.      Balaam in Numbers 22

5.      Samson’s parents in Judges 13

b.      God calls Gideon a “mighty man of valor” – Gideon’s divine potential to change Israel’s history. (verse 12)

1.      God relates to Gideon by who he is by faith, not his “dead end” job of threshing wheat.

2.      Gideon’s family is poor and he is the least in his family.

 

        I.          Transforming from ordinary to extraordinary

A.      God calls typical, regular, plain and ordinary people to transform their lives by faith.

1.      A closer look at Amos, a minor prophet.

a.      Amos 7:14-15 (KJV & NLT)

2.      I Peter 5:5, The Message Bible

3.      I Corinthians 1:26-29  (KJV & NIV)

a.      [Calling] – what God has ordained in the spiritual realm: God, because He is of the spirit realm, sees your calling; when we begin to say what God has said about us in the Word, we will see our calling.

b.      When God speaks of your destiny, He is calling or speaking from the spiritual realm.

B.      Conditions for being used by God:

1.      You must develop the ability to listen or to hear from God.  (Proverbs 20:27)

a.      You must make the time to hear from God.

2.      You must understand what is spoken.  (Proverbs 4:7; St. Matthew 13:15)

3.      You cannot be an “absent minded” hearer.  (James 1:22-26)

4.      You must not be closed minded individual.  (St. Matthew 17:20; 19:26)

5.      You must become available to God.  (I Samuel 3:1-10; James 4:8; St. Luke 1:38)

                                       ·         You must overcome the demon called busy.
